Akhil Garg is a neo-classical pianist, composer and music educator whose music asks for attention the way a quiet letter does: read slowly, and it changes you. Born in Meerut and now based in Delhi, Akhil has spent twenty years learning, teaching and performing shaping a sound that is piano-first, string-rich, and quietly defiant. Influences such as Frédéric Chopin, Chilly Gonzales, Ludovico Einaudi and Patrick Watson are visible, but his pieces remain unmistakably his own.
His debut album Songs That I Play For My Friends gathers pieces written across years of rehearsal rooms, commutes and late-night edits. The single “Waltz of a One-Legged Man (WOLM)” a solo piano piece composed in 2019 explores resilience and the strange human knack for normalising hardship while still holding on to hope. Whether performing alone or with his string quartet, Akhil’s concerts are intimate experiences which are detailed, introspective and deliberately unflashy.
Akhil’s work has been recognized on national and international stages. He won the Create in India Challenge and was awarded at the WAVES Summit 2025 (Jio Centre, Mumbai). He’s performed at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) and showcased at WAVES Bazaar, Melbourne, supported by India’s Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the Victoria state government.
Beyond the stage, Akhil teaches — shaping new players with a focus on voice, phrasing and curiosity. He also produces his own recordings and artwork, keeping creative control close to the source. Mixed and mastered collaborations include Sahil Asthana.
If you want music that rewards attention and returns it, this is where you start.
A delicate waltz exploring asymmetry and resilience through minimalist piano composition. This piece finds beauty in imbalance, with a recurring three-beat pattern that sways between melancholy and hope.
